Thomas Frank insists Brentford actually ‘need to’ learn one thing from Arsenal in particular after 3-1 defeat

Thomas Frank would have disappointed after Brentford lost their second Premier League game of the season at the Gtech Community Stadium after Arsenal beat them on New Year’s Day.

Arsenal showed they are title contenders against Brentford, according to Martin Keown by putting in a spirited performance.

The Gunners had plenty of reasons to be positive after their latest win.

Mikel Arteta hailed Ethan Nwaneri for how well he played against the Bees.

Gabriel Martinelli’s response about Bukayo Saka’s injury would have delighted Arsenal fans as well as he claimed that his side’s attacks are up for the challenge of replacing the talismanic winger.

After the contest, Thomas Frank praised the visitors in one aspect.

Thomas Frank says Brentford must “learn” from Arsenal’s set-pieces after 3-1 loss

While breaking down Mikel Merino’s goal from a corner, the Dane admitted in his post-match press conference that Brentford must learn how Arsenal manage to be as effective as they are from set-pieces.

Frank said via BeanymanSports2: “Second one, set-pieces, we know they’re good at that. We actually only gave three corners away, which is the fewest corners we gave away in three years in the Premier League against Arsenal so there is a paradox in that.”

“And I need to look more into detail, I need to look back at it but I need to look more into detail into what we could have done better but they are also, I need to acknowledge, they are very good at it, we need to learn from the best.”

The ball fell fairly kindly into Merino’s path in what was ultimately a scrappy goal inside Brentford’s box but it goes without saying that Arsenal’s set-piece threat is undeniable at this point.

What Arsenal fans chanted about their set-pieces during Brentford win

TNT Sports shared a video of Arsenal supporters chanting “Set-piece again, ole, ole!” after Merino’s strike against the Bees.

It does not seem like the Gunners’ fans are getting bored of how brilliant their team is in such situations.

At the end of the day, every team has the chance to capitalise from such situations.

Nicolas Jover have ensured Arsenal do, equipping them with a truly unique weapon.

Considering top-class managers like Thomas Frank wish to imitate Mikel Arteta’s side in this regard highlights the importance of set-pieces in games.
