‘This one hurts’, ‘gutted’: Some fans react as Sheffield Wednesday sign their 28-year-old

Sheffield Wednesday completed the signing of Chey Dunkley on Thursday on a .

The 28-year-old centre-back joins the Owls on a free transfer after leaving Wigan Athletic at the end of last season.

He follows teenage midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in moving to Hillsborough.

Dunkley came through the ranks at Crewe Alexandra but was released in 2010 without making a senior appearance.

He went on to sign for non-league side Hednesford Town before enjoying stints at Kidderminster Harriers and York City.

In 2017, Dunkley moved to Wigan, where he made 117 competitive appearances, registering .

The 6ft 2in defender, who was sidelined by a double leg break in February but is now fit again, was released by the Latics in July.

“Dunkley is brave, quick and aggressive,” wrote of Dunkley. “Strong in the air and composed on the ball, the 28-year-old is a threat in both boxes.”

With Wigan , a number of their players and former players have moved elsewhere.
