‘This lad is top top’: Charlie Austin raves about West Brom 18-year-old

West Bromwich Albion striker Charlie Austin has taken to Twitter to praise Baggies academy goalkeeper Josh Griffiths following his loan switch away from The Hawthorns.

The 18-year-old has made the move to League Two side Cheltenham Town on a , where he’s in line to get his first taste of senior football.

As reported by , Griffiths will start the season as their number one, with Scott Flinders not due back from a broken leg until January at the earliest.

The youngster has impressed in Albion’s youth set up, represented England at youth level, and signed a four-year contract at The Hawthorns last September.

Griffiths is the second Baggie to join Cheltenham this summer, following in the footsteps of Finn Azaz, who joined the Robins two weeks ago.

The deal for the young stopper includes a January break clause, which gives both clubs the opportunity to assess how the loan is progressing.

And West Brom forward Austin was delighted to read the news, taking to social media to praise both Griffiths and Cheltenham for teaming up ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Cheltenham finished fourth in the and qualified for the playoffs, but lost out to Northampton Town in the semi-finals.
