Thierry Henry singles out two Arsenal players who amazed him against Real Madrid, they were ‘outstanding’

Thierry Henry has singled out two Arsenal players who really impressed him as they eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta has guided Arsenal to their first Champions League semi-final in 16 years after his team emphatically defeated Madrid over two legs.

The Gunners produced a comprehensive 5-1 aggregate scoreline across the two legs and even managed to win 2-1 on the night at Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking after the match, Arsenal’s legendary forward hailed two players who starred in the Spanish capital for the North London club.

Thierry Henry hails Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli’s defensive work rate vs Real Madrid

Thierry Henry has hailed Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli’s defensive work rate against Real Madrid as ‘outstanding’.

Both wingers found the back of the net against Madrid, however, it was the effort they put in to help out the team which impressed Henry the most.

Henry knows the feeling of scoring for Arsenal at the Bernabeu, which he joked about with Saka, but he was very keen to highlight both wingers’ work rate. Meanwhile, Madrid’s forwards were slammed by the Spanish media on a tricky night for Los Blancos.

Henry told CBS Sports: “Very proud of him, especially with the way he defended. Bukayo, I’ve praised the back four many times, but you and Martinelli, the way you defend on the wing and the way you come back.

“You did it at one point where you sprinted back to help Timber when actually you didn’t have to because he had nobody and you stopped the ball into the box.

“Forget the penalty, forget the goal – which by the way was outstanding, I know the feeling of scoring there – but it’s what you do off the ball which impresses me the most. It’s just outstanding what you do, not only you, but also Martinelli.”

Bukayo Saka on whether he intentionally copied Thierry Henry’s Bernabeu celebration

Saka claims that he did not intentionally copy Henry’s Bernabeu celebration from 2006, as he shushed the Madrid fans after scoring.

The 23-year-old revealed that he just wanted to have his own moment, but admits it is nice he can share such an image with Henry.

Saka admitted: “To be fair, not really you know. I just wanted to have my own moment. But of course, it’s nice we can both share this picture.”
