‘They’ve been considering’: Romano claims ‘unbelievable’ Brazil international is a Spurs target

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are indeed monitoring Douglas Luiz.

Spurs are set for a busy few days as they look to get at least one January deal over the line.

Tottenham have experienced some disappointments along the way.

However, Fabio Paratici has plenty of experience in delivering late on in a transfer window.

One name that recently emerged as a Spurs transfer target is Aston Villa’s holding midfielder.

The claimed on Friday that Tottenham were preparing a £32million bid for Luiz.

As well as Spurs, north London rival Arsenal are reportedly also eyeing the Brazil international.

Speaking on , Romano said Spurs were indeed considering a move for Luiz.

However, he’s not aware of any Tottenham bids on the table for the Villans midfielder.

Nonetheless, it wouldn’t surprise him if Paratici were to launch a late swoop.

“I’m told he is a player that they’ve been considering, one of the players they have on their list,” said Romano.

“Let’s see if they will decide to jump into it. I’m told at the moment there is still no bid on the table.

“But let’s see, because in these crazy hours you know how Paratici works.”

Can Spurs get “unbelievable” Luiz to N17?

Luiz has been in fine form for Villa over the course of the last two seasons.

Since arriving at the club from Manchester City for around £15million, he has established himself as a consistently excellent performer.

Luiz helped Villa beat Arsenal 3-0 in November 2020 and Ian Wright admitted that the Brazilian “blasted” the Gunners.

“Someone like Douglas Luiz, he is ready to be one of the best midfield players in the Premier League,” Wright .

“He is so underrated. They blasted us. We had no chance. It was men against boys.”

And in June last year, former boss Dean Smith Luiz “unbelievable”.

It’ll be a hard move to pull off for Spurs, given Villa don’t want to lose him.

That said, it’s been an eventful window on the whole – who knows what the next 50-odd hours will bring?
