‘They’ll want to get out’… Brendan Rodgers confirms there are players who want to leave Celtic in January
Away from the Kilmarnock defeat for a second, Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that there are players who want to leave the club in January in order to get first-team football.
The Hoops gaffer was asked about Celtic’s recent links to Aberdeen striker, Bojan Miovksi, and whilst he wouldn’t comment on the 24-year-old, Rodgers admitted that the club are looking to offload players who are not getting any game time at Parkhead.
Rogers said [], “I wouldn’t comment on any specific player.
“This is the period where agents throw out names and links, so if I did it would be a long six weeks.
“But there are certainly names there. As a manager, you’d always prefer to get them in the sooner the better but we have the winter break and we won’t play until the middle of January.
“Work is also underway for the guys who haven’t been playing — obviously they’ll want to get out to play as quickly as possible.”
The Celtic players Brendan Rodgers could offload in January
It’s telling that the manager was keen to point out that players who haven’t been playing are keen to leave and not those who are not deemed good enough for Celtic.
For example, players like Mikey Johnston, Hyunjun Yang and Greg Taylor have all been at the centre of attention for their poor performances of late. But it seems that these are the players who are not going to be moved on.

Looking at the stats, it’s evident that Rodgers is likely to allow Hyeokkyu Kwon, Yuki Kobayashi and Benjamin Siegrist all leave in January.
Collectively, all three have made zero appearances in the Hoops this season. There is an argument that Stephen Welsh and Marco Tilio could be allowed to get some gametime even though they have turned out for Celtic this season, although not enough to make a significant impact. []
It will be interesting come January as it is clear after yesterday’s defeat to Kilmarnock that there is a lot of work needing to be done to improve this Celtic team for the title run-in.
