‘They will get that player’: Journalist shares how much he now expects Arsenal to spend in January
Journalist James Benge has shared how much money he expects Arsenal to spend in the January transfer window.
On the podcast, Benge was asked whether the Gunners would spend £50 million when the market re-opens and said it will be in that region.
Mykhaylo Mudryk is the top target for the transfer window ahead, with Benge saying that there is a genuine prospect of negotiating down the asking price.
He thinks that Arsenal will get a new forward player to bolster their squad before the window slams shut at the end of next month.

Benge said: “From what I’m told, they’re basically saying £100 million (for Mudryk) because that’s what Antony cost, that’s what Jack Grealish cost, but they know it won’t be anywhere near that if they do agree a fee.”
When he was asked; Arsenal will spend £50 million in January, he replied: “Agree. Maybe it’s like £40 million, £45 million.
“They are on the lookout for that player in attack, in particular, that can maybe take them over the top this season and maybe contribute for years to come and that’s what that player will cost.
“I think they will get that player. £40 million – £50 million sounds right.”
Arsenal have had a long term process when it comes to transfers and squad building and they have earned the right to be trusted over their strategy.
They showed with the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang situation that they will not just buy a striker for the sake of it or do a short term deal in panic.
They have been looking at getting a new winger since the summer and Mudryk now seems to be the top target, with Benge now expecting that a deal for a new forward will happen before 1 February.
