‘They will discuss in the coming weeks’: Romano claims Newcastle want to sign ‘insane’ £40m player

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Newcastle United are looking to open talks over Dean Henderson in the coming weeks.

The transfer insider, speaking on , stressed that the Magpies will not pay £40million for him, however.

Romano reckons Newcastle will look to potentially sign the Manchester United second-choice goalkeeper on loan.

The St James’ Park outfit has been linked with Henderson in recent weeks.

Earlier this week, the claimed the 25-year-old was closing in on a move to Newcastle.

However, Eddie Howe played down the speculation ahead of Newcastle’s meeting with Burnley.

He told : “We’re not close to signing anyone at this moment in time. That’s far from the truth.”

“A player they have on their list”

Romano claims the Magpies do have an interest in Henderson, but stressed that “it’s still not close”.

“I think they will do something important,” Romano said on Gazzetta Dello FIVE.

“Dean Henderson is a player they want, but they are not paying £40million for him.”

“I think loan could be an option, but they will discuss in the coming weeks.

“It’s still not close, but Dean Henderson is a player they have on their list.”

Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge lauded Henderson in an interview with last year.

“He’s insane,” he said of his now-former Blades teammate in an interview translated by .

“I’ve never been with such a good goalkeeper. One thing in matches, he is almost a defence alone at times, and you feel so secure with him.

“But people have to see him at training. It’s crazy. He saves balls from one yard.
