‘They were so poor’: Tony Adams batters two Arsenal players after 2-0 defeat

Tony Adams has delivered a brutal verdict on Arsenal defenders Pablo Mari and Rob Holding following yesterday’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea. The former centre-back told that he wanted to lace his boots up and get back onto the pitch!

The Gunners were outclassed, outbattled and outthought by Thomas Tuchel’s team. Chelsea were better all over the park as Mikel Arteta felt the effects of missing several key players from his squad.

Adams is an Arsenal hero and he was working for Premier League Productions as a pundit yesterday. He couldn’t quite believe just how easy Arsenal made life for Chelsea debutant Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian powered his way through the Gunners rearguard, proving a menacing presence throughout the contest. Adams has suggested that he wasn’t impressed with the team’s defending.

“That was very uncomfortable. It was men against boys. Lukaku dominated the central defenders. I wanted to go out there and play. Mari and Holding played him so poorly – I teach young kids to get in front of the centre-forward.

“Lukaku was exceptional today but the Arsenal defenders didn’t play him right – you’ve got to get in front of Lukaku.”

Arsenal have to change quickly and Adams is right

It doesn’t get any easier for the Gunners who face Manchester City next. Their defenders are going to have to toughen up and Arsenal need points on the board quickly.

Mari has struggled to hold down a place in the Arsenal team on a regular basis. On yesterday’s showing, he probably won’t be the first choice when everyone is fit either.

Holding is another one who sometimes flatters to deceive. If Arsenal are wanting to get back to their former glories they will certainly have to sharpen up at the back.

Adams is right to batter the duo for yesterday’s performance. Mari and Holding made life far too easy for Lukaku and Arteta has to get busy on the training ground.
