‘They surprised me’: Rodrigo Bentancur says two Tottenham players are so much better than he thought they were

The man of the moment at Tottenham Hotspur right now is undoubtedly midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.

His brace against Leeds United earned Spurs a vital three points after Antonio Conte came from behind three times on Saturday.

The Uruguayan arrived from Juventus in January alongside forward Dejan Kulusevski.

Although the young Swede immediately grabbed the headlines, Bentancur has quickly settled into Tottenham’s midfield.

He’s formed a brilliant partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and in the last month has arguably been their best player.

However, the 25-year-old has now explained that there were two Spurs stars that immediately caught his attention at the club.

Bentancur said he was immediately impressed with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

He went on to say that the pair were even better than he first realised when he started working with them.

Bentancur impressed with Kane and Son

: “Of course, playing [with] crazy cracks like Harry Kane or Son Heung-Min makes the task a lot easier.

“The truth is that, from the first moment I set foot at Tottenham, the two of them amazed me: I knew they were very strong, but I didn’t think up to this point.

“It’s one thing to see them on TV, it’s another to share work with them during the week, the locker room, day after day.

“They are monsters, total champions with the ball at their feet, but they are also two simple guys and very, very helpful. I swear: they surprised me.”

Bentancur may have been impressed with Son and Kane, but it’s the Uruguayan making his teammates take notice of his performances now.

Dejan Kulusevski believes Bentancur is one of the most underrated players in the world.

After his brace on Saturday, fellow goal scorer Ben Davies called him ‘top-class’ and thought he was brilliant on the ball.

It’s no surprise that Kane and Son stood out to Bentancur when he arrived.

The two forwards are world class, and have consistently lifted Spurs to another level.

All three Spurs players could end up playing against each other in Qatar after being called up by their respective nations.
