Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has aimed a subtle dig at Tottenham Hotspur by reminding Antonio Conte of his side’s recent humiliating defeats.

Both Spurs and United are aiming for the fourth spot and the game at Old Trafford this evening can be viewed as a six-pointer. A loss today for either team could really dent their Champions League hopes and Rangnick seems to have started a few mind games already.

The German, whose side are currently fifth in the table, praised Tottenham’s ability to hurt teams in transition.

However, quickly after saying that, he claimed that Manchester United should be able to beat this Spurs side, who have already lost to smaller teams like Middlesbrough and Burnley.

Ralf Rangnick: If Boro can beat Tottenham, so can Manchester United

In part two of his press conference ahead of the big game this evening, Rangnick said about Tottenham, as per : “[They play] with a back three and it is a very compact shape.

“They are probably one of the best teams in transitional moments with Heung Min-Son and Harry Kane. But, at the same time, they also lost against teams like Middlesbrough, Wolves and Burnley.

“It’s not a team who, if we play at the best possible level, it’s not impossible to beat them. In all respect, if Middlesbrough, Burnley and Wolverhampton can beat them, we can also beat them in our own stadium.

“This is what we have to do, this is our job tomorrow.”

Irrespective of what has happened in recent games, Manchester United vs Tottenham, with a place in the top four up for grabs, was always going to be a big game.

Rangnick’s comments may just have spiced things up a bit more and knowing Conte, he definitely wouldn’t have liked them.

Yes, Spurs did lose to the likes of Boro and Burnley and both defeats were, in a way, humiliating. However, Conte led his side to a phenomenal win against Manchester City in their own backyard as well, which shows what they’re really capable of.

Both teams will be going for the win this evening and it’ll surely be a cracking game.
