‘They like him’: Fabrizio Romano says Leeds are hoping to sign ‘great’ striker

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Leeds United “like” Wilfried Gnonto and hinted that they’re pushing to sign him.

Whites boss Jesse Marsch has overseen a busy transfer window at Elland Road this summer.

Leeds have brought in seven new players, including replacements for Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

However, there are two areas that Leeds could yet do with strengthening.

One is at left-back, even though Marsch has admitted the Whites feel “better” with Pascal Struijk covering well there.

The other is up front, amid continued injury issues for Patrick Bamford.

And Italy striker Gnonto, who plays for FC Zurich in Switzerland, has been linked with a move to Elland Road.

Last week, Gianluca Di Marzio  that Leeds were working on a deal to sign the 18-year-old.

The Whites were reportedly hoping to land Gnonto for just £4.2 million.

However, Tuttomercatoweb – via  – claims that Zurich want at least €8million (£6.8million).

Now Romano, speaking to , has confirmed that Leeds are keen on Gnonto.

However, he warned that Zurich won’t be pushovers when it comes to negotiations.

“The most interesting one is Wilfried Gnonto,” said Romano.

“The Italian talent who is doing great with the national team under Roberto Mancini.

“They like him. But it is not easy to negotiate with Zurich.”

Gnonto is an extremely talented youngster who Mancini has described as a player who ‘’ .

Already a full , the teenager can play in a variety of central and wide attacking roles.

Feyenoord have also been linked with Gnonto.
