‘They cannot’: Arteta shares what he observed about his Arsenal players in dressing room right after the game

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta faced the media after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the Premier League today.
That’s now three defeats in a row for the Gunners in the space of two weeks. They were the favourites to finish fourth at the start of the month but now, it doesn’t look likely at all, even though the teams around them aren’t doing great either.
Arsenal dominated the game for most parts and even had a few good chances to score. However, Fraser Forster stepped up for the Saints and it looked like nothing was going to go past him today.
Arteta was asked about his players’ reaction in the dressing room after the defeat and the Gunners boss said something worrying.
Mikel Arteta: Arsenal players are really down because they cannot find right answers
In his post-match press conference at the St Mary’s, Arteta said, as per : “They are really down today (after the defeat). They are down because they cannot find the right answer apart from what we can do better around the box.
“That’s the frustrating part.
“When someone is better you have to be critical of yourself, but when it’s happening in 25 minutes against Palace, some periods against Brighton in the first half, it’s very difficult to explain accept.
“To create more I can’t remember a game where Arsenal has played more than better, but the result is what we need to be where we want to be. And if we can’t do that then we’re not going to be there, it’s as simple as that.”

Worrying
It’s always worrying when a manager comes out and says that his players are struggling to find the right answers. It’s even more of a concern when they’ve lost three games on the bounce.
If Arteta thinks his players are down because they cannot find the right answers, it’s up to him to provide them with solutions. It’s clear that they have the quality to do better than they have done over the last two weeks, someone just needs to make them understand that.
If there ever was a time for Arteta to come up with answers to help his side, it’s now. The Gunners face Chelsea and Manchester United next and further setbacks in those games will definitely end Arsenal’s top-four dreams.
It will be interesting to see how Arteta will get his side to respond against the European champions on Wednesday.
