‘They are ready’: Antonio Conte says two Tottenham players could now start vs Leeds after last night’s loss

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told that Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski could now start against Leeds United after last night’s loss.

Spurs fell to a disappointing defeat at the City Ground after goals from Renan Lodi and Jesse Lingard handed Nottingham Forest a win.

The loss means Conte’s men have exited the EFL Cup in the third round and will now have to focus on other competitions to end their trophy drought.

Kulusevski was named amongst the substitutes last night after making his comeback against Liverpool on Sunday. Richarlison also returned to the squad after a month on the sidelines with a calf injury.

Both players were introduced in the 59th minute, just a couple of minutes after Conte’s men went 2-0 down.

The duo couldn’t manage to help Spurs turn the game around but Conte was delighted to have them back on the pitch together.

Conte says Richarlison and Kulusevski could start

, Conte hinted that Kulusevski and Richarlison could be in line to start against Leeds on Saturday.

“The positive thing tonight was to see again Richarlison and Deki [Kulusevski],” he said.

“I think they are ready for the game on Saturday to play against Leeds. It is good news for us.”

Spurs put in an underwhelming performance last night and looked sluggish after a busy run of fixtures over the past two months.

Conte will be disappointed to exit the competition at such an early stage, especially as it represented a good chance for his side to pick up some silverware.

The Italian opted to play Perisic up-front alongside Harry Kane once again but it didn’t quite work out.

Forest were even reduced to ten-men for the last 15 minutes of the game after Orel Mangala picked up a second booking.

But Conte’s men couldn’t manage to create any decent chances thereafter and exited the competition after a dismal display.

It will be a big boost to have Kulusevski and Richarlison back in the starting line-up on Saturday. Conte will be hoping they can help his side pick up a much-needed win before going into the World Cup.
