‘There was no moaning’: Barry Lewtas couldn’t believe how hard Liverpool youngster worked yesterday
Liverpool youth coach Barry Lewtas has said he’s been really impressed with Ben Doak’s work-rate.
The 16-year-old was in sensational form against Rangers in the UEFA Youth League, scoring once and providing two assists.
“He was excellent, especially when we went a man down,”
“We always thought especially with Ben, we had a threat in behind. Ben was a great outlet and scored his goal out of nothing.

“I thought his work-rate was phenomenal and his ability to keep going as a lone nine. There was no moaning from him.
“He tried to hold the ball up and played for the team. The last two games he has certainly raised his game, but unfortunately for him he can’t play against Rangers every week!
“You wouldn’t want to play against Ben. He keeps knocking on the door, running in behind, he carries the ball and is aggressive.
Lewtas impressed with Doak’s work-rate
Doak would have had added motivation to perform well against Rangers.
Liverpool signed the young winger from Celtic in March, after he’d already made his senior debut in an Old Firm match.
Doak tends to play as a winger, predominantly on the right, but can also play in a more advanced role if needed.
His quick feet and ability make him a nightmare to defend against, as Rangers discovered.
Doak already has three goals and three assists in the UEFA Youth League this season, to add to his four goal contributions for the under-18s.
He made his under-21s debut in Premier League 2 off the bench last week, and will be hoping to stay continue playing above his age group.

Lewtas has suggested that Doak needs to keep the same work-rate he showed when Liverpool were down to ten men up in every match he plays.
Liverpool are certainly aware they’ve got a phenomenal talent on their hands.
He’ll be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Stefan Bajcetic and Bobby Clark who have made their senior debuts this season.
Bajcetic is particular is thought to be well ahead of schedule in his development, and Doak could follow in his footsteps soon.
The future appears to be very bright an Anfield right now.
