‘There is an issue’: Steven Gerrard discusses fitness of 27-year-old Rangers ace

Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ibrox forward Kemar Roofe has an “issue” which will be monitored over the next day or so.

The 27-year-old was in action last night but was substituted in the 42nd minute after pulling up with a calf problem.

Rangers currently have a lengthy injury list, with Ryan Jack, Leon Balogun and Brandon Barker missing the trip to Gibraltar, while Joe Aribo and Nikola Katic are also sidelined.

However, Gerrard doesn’t seem too concerned about Roofe’s issue, and is hopeful it’s not too serious.

“There is an issue but we’re hoping it’s not a big one,” the Gers boss told Rangers TV – via – after the game.

“He said he could feel a bit of tightness so hopefully he’s done the sensible thing and told us before it’s got worse.

“We’ll have a look at it in the next day or so, but hopefully – fingers crossed he should be ok.”

Rangers ran out 5-0 winners over Lincoln Red Imps to set up a Europa League third qualifying round clash with Dutch side Willem II.

With Rangers having picked up so many knocks and injuries recently, Roofe has done well to inform his manager early on of his issue.

A relatively quick turnaround sees the Light Blues travel to Hibernian in the Sunday lunchtime kickoff, so hopefully the summer signing will be available for the game.

Even if he isn’t, at least there is some decent cover in attack.
