‘The worst’: Gary Neville really unimpressed with player Tottenham sold for £26m after watching him yesterday
Gary Neville spoke on ’s coverage of Holland’s game against Senegal yesterday and was really unimpressed with former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn.
Spurs sold Bergwijn to Ajax over the summer in a deal worth £26.4 million after he cut a frustrated figure under Antonio Conte ().
The 25-year-old looked bright when he featured for Spurs last season and produced a memorable moment as he scored a brace in the final minute of the 3-2 win over Leicester.
But the Dutch forward found chances hard to come by thereafter, with Conte favouring both Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura over him.
Bergwijn has netted 11 goals in 21 appearances for Ajax this season and started Holland’s game against Senegal yesterday.
He led the line with another former Spurs player in Vincent Janessen but Neville wasn’t impressed with the duo.

, Neville feels Holland’s attacking players are the worst they’ve ever been this year.
“The standard of Dutch forwards we have seen over the last 25 years, this is probably the worst set,” he said.
“Janssen was at Spurs, Bergwijn has been at Spurs. It just looked really lacking in quality.”
The Netherlands have produced some spectacular players over the years, particularly in the attacking department.
They’ve had world-class talents like Robin van Persie, Marco van Basten and Ruud van Nistelrooy leading the line in past tournaments.
It’s fair to say that Bergwijn and Janssen starting a World Cup game represents a significant drop-off for the Dutch side.
Yet, Holland got the job done yesterday as they found two late goals to seal a 2-0 win in their opener.
Bergwijn played a part in the second goal too as Edouard Mendy parried his shot into the path of Davy Klaassen, who sealed a 2-0 win for Van Gaal’s men.
