The referee from Tottenham vs Arsenal has now been told that he’s missed something after the match
Arsenal beat Tottenham 1-0 on Saturday, but as ever, the north London derby wasn’t a game without controversy.
Indeed, there were some arguments after the game that Arsenal’s goal should’ve been disallowed.
Gabriel Magalhaes was very physical from the corner before nodding in the goal, and there were some calls for a foul to be given.
However, speaking on the , Adrian Clarke has noted another issue in the same incident.
Indeed, according to Clarke, there were two fouls from Spurs players in the build-up as James Maddison and Micky van de Ven held both Ben White and William Saliba as the ball was coming into the box.

Referee missed Tottenham fouls in build-up to goal
Clarke shared his view of this issue.
“I mean, Romero, If I’m Postecoglou I’m battering Cristian Romero. It wasn’t a push, watch the replay and have a look at what Maddison and Van de Ven are doing to White and Saliba, it’s more of a foul than it is what we saw with Gabriel, they have their arms around them,” Clarke said.
“On that goal it was very simple and clever, White and Saliba dragged their markers to the space in front of Vicario and blocked him and all Gabriel had to do was to get away from Romero, which he did with ease.”
Fouls from corners are a problem
These sorts of grapples from corners are a real issue that is so hard to solve.
There are unspotted fouls from so many corners in the Premier League these days, and it’s almost never pulled up by the referees.
Of course, you can’t give penalties for every single push or tug, but, at the same time, by the letter of the law, these are fouls.
The rules on this matter are clear, but the actual officiating of this grappling from set-plays is very inconsistent to say the least.
In the end, this incident didn’t matter as Gabriel scored anyway, but Arsenal would have been right to be aggrieved if a penalty wasn’t given for the blatant holding that was happening from this corner.
