The real reason why Man United are set to loan Antony out to Real Betis despite being against short-term deal

TBR Football exclusively understands that Manchester United have agreed terms with Real Betis over a loan move for Antony until the remainder of the season.

TBR Football previously revealed that Manchester United had decided to offload Antony back in October.

Earlier this year, Real Betis set their sights on signing Antony, who was also generating interest from his former club Ajax and Brazilian giants Flamengo.

Man United convinced by Antony loan to Real Betis because of Vitor Roque success

TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can reveal that Manchester United, who have been wary of a short-term deal for Antony have been partly convinced due to Vitor Roque’s success on loan from Barcelona at Real Betis.

Anthony Martial’s unsuccessful six-month loan spell at Sevilla is a key factor behind United being reticent about a similarly short-term deal involving the Brazilian international.

Manchester United’s concerns had remained despite Real Betis covering less than half of the 24-year-old’s wages.

But with Roque becoming one of Manuel Pellegrini’s most trusted players this campaign, Ruben Amorim’s side now have a reason to believe that the former Ajax winger could also turn his career around at Betis.

Antony, deemed a “shocking failure” at Manchester United has been convinced by both Pellegrini and Roque to make the move to Spain.

TBR Football understands that the FA Cup winner is of the belief that a move to the La Liga side could aid his redemption as he has managed to persuade the Red Devils to send him on out on loan.

The prospect of a permanent transfer to Real Betis does not lie in the Osasco-born forward’s destiny as the Spanish club do not have the finances to fund such a move.

Antony, who Micah Richards criticised may well have made his final appearance in a United shirt for the time being after coming on as a substitute in their 3-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Antony stats for Manchester United

How Antony fares at Real Betis could play a major role in dictating his future beyond the ongoing season.

The two-time Eredivisie winner, who signed for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag in 2022 has been widely criticised for being a massive letdown as a signing,

Antony was described as “useless” as he has yet to justify why he was United’s marquee signing two seasons ago.

Jaap Staam tore into Antony as well for not being at the standard to play for Manchester United.
