The real reason why Arsenal didn’t sign Raphinha from Barcelona this summer

Arsenal were linked with a number of transfers that didn’t come to fruition this summer.

The Gunners were linked with so many potential signings that didn’t come off.

Benjamin Sesko was a top target for Arsenal at one point, while Leroy Sane was also linked to the Gunners.

Raphinha is another player who was linked to Arsenal, and according to Team News and Ticks, speaking on his , Arsenal were indeed keen on the Brazilian.

However, the reporter notes that Raphinha didn’t want to come to Arsenal because he wanted to be a guaranteed starter, and the Gunners couldn’t offer that.

Why Arsenal didn’t sign Raphinha

Team News and Ticks shared why Raphinha didn’t come to north London.

“Raphinha was someone we were linked with. Again, it is someone we were interested in but he wanted guaranteed minutes. He didn’t want to be first name on the teamsheet, but if he’s fit he starts, but that’s not something we can offer,” He said.

“I think that’s quite small-minded, but yeah, that was the reason with Raphinha, if he wanted to be a guaranteed starter, why not stay at Barcelona.”

Raphinha would’ve got games at Arsenal

Raphinha wants to be a guaranteed starter, and that is understandable, but it’s not as though he would never play if he joined Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has been criticised for overusing Bukayo Saka, and rotation in that position will be important.

Of course, Raphinha wants to start every week, but there are worse positions to be in that being the 12th man on a team competing to win the Premier League title and potentially even the Champions League.

Given that Lamine Yamal is the first choice down the right flank for Barcelona these days, Raphinha might end up regretting his decision to not join Arsenal.
