The real reason Arsenal haven’t signed Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer
Ivan Toney to Arsenal is perhaps the most discussed potential transfer of the past 12 months within the Premier League.
The England international has been linked to Arsenal for such a long time now, but, as of yet, no deal has come to fruition.
Arsenal’s interest in Toney has seemingly waned, and this situation does seem strange. After all, Arsenal looked set to sign Toney in January.
Speaking on , James McNicholas has been discussing Toney and Arsenal’s interest in the striker, and he’s shared why Arsenal ultimately haven’t gone for the forward.

Why Arsenal haven’t signed Ivan Toney
McNicholas shared what he knows about Arsenal and Toney.
“Ivan Toney and Arsenal is an interesting one. What I would say is that most of those times the pricetag would’ve been probably too expensive for Arsenal, in January we were talking a fee of £70/80m,’ The journalist said.
“Arsenal would’ve baulked at that, particularly because of Toney’s age, he’s 28, 29 later this season. That age would’ve been part of why that window has passed for him. Arsenal’s recruitment has generally been founded on bringing in players in their early to mid 20s.
“It also hasn’t helped his case that he didn’t play that much football last season. He had the ban, 17 appearances four goals. If he showed his best form, things may have been different.”
Ivan Toney should still be an option
Arsenal don’t want Toney because of his age and his previous pricetag, but surely he should still be an option for the Gunners.
Toney is apparently available for £30m now, and Arsenal still haven’t added a striker to their ranks.
Yes, he is on the older side at the age of 28, but he still has a solid few years left in him, and if that £30m pricetag is accurate, that will be good value.
Arsenal should be looking at Toney before the transfer window closes.
