‘The real deal’… Martin Keown says 27-year-old Liverpool player could replace Mo Salah

Well, Liverpool are going to be without Mohamed Salah for a while now. The former Chelsea player is away on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah will for Liverpool against Arsenal, Bournemouth and Fulham. The forward could miss out on further games depending on how far Egypt progress at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Liverpool will take on Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday. Ahead of the match, Gunners legend Martin Keown has said that Diogo Jota could compensate for the loss of Salah, saying that the 27-year-old is the real deal.
Keown wrote in : “Liverpool are in hot pursuit of four trophies. They’re top of the Premier League, through to the Europa League’s last 16 and Carabao Cup semi-finals, plus hope to see off Arsenal in the FA Cup tomorrow. But the big question is, can they cope without Mohamed Salah?
“The Premier League’s most productive player with 14 goals and eight assists is now at the Africa Cup of Nations, having produced another two goals and an assist in that 4-2 victory over Newcastle on Monday.
“He’s left Liverpool at the summit. Now it is over to the new kids on the block to make sure they stay there. Diogo Jota looks the real deal when fully fit, while Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are trying to prove worthy of replacing Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
“This is a massive chance for them to prove that Salah will not be missed. Scoring against Arsenal would be a perfect way to ease any fears the fans may have.”
My View: Diogo Jota have to step up his game
In my opinion, Diogo Jota has to really step up his game for Liverpool. I do not think that he has done enough to play week in and week out.
Yes, I know that there have been injury concerns for Jota, but when everyone is fit and available, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, who was the subject of a controversial decision against Newcastle United, is not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.
The 27-year-old has made eight starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool this season. The forward has scored five goals and given one assist in those games.
