‘The priority’… Fabrizio Romano says Dortmund want 27-year-old Spurs man, but would rather sign £32m player
Sergio Reguilon is back at Tottenham after his loan to Manchester United was cut short.
Reguilon is back in north London, but he may only be back at Spurs for a cup of coffee as another move away from the club this month beckons.
Speaking on , Fabrizio Romano has named Borussia Dortmund as a club that would like to sign Reguilon this month, but he’s not their top target.
Indeed, according to Romano, Reguilon is indeed a player that Dortmund like, but their priority signing in that left-back position is currently Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.

Maatsen the priority over Reguilon
Romano shared what he knows about Reguilon and the man.
“So, one of the names included in their list is Sergio Reguilon, he is one of the names on their list, but the priority target is Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, Dortmund want Ian Maatsen, he is a concrete target, there is a conversation ongoing, but what is the problem? Chelsea have a clear issue with the loan spots, they need to make room for these players to leave, it can’t just be loan, loan, loan, there is a rule and Chelsea have to respect that,” Romano said.
Both good options
Dortmund are in the market for a new left-back, and it looks as though they have two very good options on their radar here.
Yes, Reguilon has been out of form for a little while, but his skillset should suit the Bundesliga to a tee with his pace, intensity and delivery from wide areas translating well to the pace of German football.
Maatsen himself is a very talented young player, and after shining at Burnley last season, a spell in Germany could be the perfect next step for his development.
Maatsen is the priority, but if Chelsea decide to keep him, don’t be shocked if the German giants come calling for Reguilon.
