The other punishment likely coming Liverpool’s way after Arne Slot and Curtis Jones red cards

Liverpool and Everton played out a thrilling Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.

Mohamed Salah thought he had snatched a 2-1 win with an instinctive 73rd minute strike, before a thumping James Tarkowski volley in the 98th minute saw Everton claim a point.

The equaliser sparked wild scenes.

After Abdoulaye Doucoure opted to celebrate in front of the Liverpool fans, Curtis Jones was sent off for grabbing the Frenchman by the collar, and the Everton No.16 was also dismissed.

Arne Slot was then shown a red card too following a confrontation with Michael Oliver – and Liverpool should prepare themselves for further punishment after the brawl at Goodison Park.

Liverpool set for £65,000 fine – at least

Previously, the Football Association (FA) have dished out fines for breaches of FA Rule E20.1 – which penalises clubs if they “failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion” during games.

Arsenal were recently hit with a £60,000 fine and also a £65,000 fine when their players surrounded David Coote and Anthony Taylor in clashes against Oxford and Manchester City respectively, so Liverpool – and Everton – can both expect to be slapped with similar charges after the chaotic end to the Merseyside derby.

Of course, Liverpool will be more annoyed to lose Jones and Slot for the upcoming Premier League clash against Wolves at Anfield on Sunday than they will be about any fines, although the Reds should be expecting further punishment from the FA.

Slot is believed to have felt Ibrahima Konate was fouled by Beto before Tarkowski scored.

Who will manage Liverpool against Wolves on Sunday?

Sipke Hulshoff – Assistant Manager to Slot – was also shown a red card by Oliver, meaning the pair are banned from appearing on the touchline this Sunday.

Therefore, Johnny Heitinga is expected to lead Liverpool against Wolves – according to Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail.

Slot will – however – only be absent from the touchline for two games, with straight red cards for managers not resulting in a ban of three games like they do for players.
