The one man at Tottenham who always knew Djed Spence was perfect for Spurs’ system wasn’t even Ange Postecoglou

Djed Spence’s career revival at Tottenham Hotspur is one of the best stories to emerge from the 2024/2025 Premier League season.

Until the ongoing campaign, it seemed like Spence had made a blunder by signing for Tottenham in the first place.

Signed in 2022, An𒐪tonio Conte did not fancy the Englishman from the get-go.

Djed Spence was asked to head out on subsequent loan spells to Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa after instantly being discounted as a player who🅘 could make his mark in a🦄 Spurs shirt.

But this season, Spence has impressed everyone at Tottenham and since being given a second chance atꩲ the club, it could be 💜argued that he has been his side’s best player — even scoring his first Premier League goal in the Lilywhites’ latest 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich Town.

At this point, it seems unimaginable for Ange Postecoglou to even consider 🍸dropping one of his most in-form pl𒆙ayers.

Matt Wells always knew Tottenham star Djed Spence was perfect for Ange Postecoglou’s system

The former Nottingham Forest defender is impressing week in and week out in a Spurs strip, with 🐻Gary Lineker tipping Spence for an England call-up as well.

The ꦕ24-year🧜-old is in the form of his life and not many English full-backs are in better form than him currently.

According to a report by journalist Alasdair Gold, it was Matt Weꦫlls who has been “championing” Spence since the summer as he always felt the versatile full-back was a perfect fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Recently, Postecoglou admitted to testing Spence in orde♊r to determine whet⛄her he was ready to play for him and the report does mention that the former Celtic boss kept a close eye on him.

Furthermore, it has been claimed that Spence, who has been lauded by Dominic Solanke is a popular ꧂member of Tottenham’s squad as well.

Tough times don’t last, tough people do and the Spurs fan favourite is an embodiment of that being the🅰 case.

What people close to Djed Spence have said about his attitude at Tottenham

People close to Spence have revealed that in the past, his introverted character has meant others have got the impression that the🦩 player does not have the best attitude.

Journalist Jay Harris stated: I’ve spoken to people who know him quite well, and they’ve said that Spence is a bit introverted, and he can be quite aloof. And so there are times where people probably have misinterpreted that as him not caring or him having a bad attitude. But I think what we’re seei💖ng before us now is a 🅘24 year old who was a young boy.”

“He’s a young man now. Apparently during his time in Italy with Genoa, that was quite a powerful experience for him because Leeds didn’t work out for a number of different issues but mainly because he had quite🐼 a 𓆏bad knee injury, which ruled him out.”

However, Spence decided to knuckle down and put the graft in upon his returꦐn to the Tottenham Hots༒pur Stadium from his loan spell at Genoa.

“I think, for two and a half months, three months in total. So he’s gone from barely getting a game in the Championship to he played at the San Siro twice with Genoa. He played against Juventus away for Genoa. And s✅o he’s returning to Spurs and he’s thinking, wow, if I want to kick on with my career at the highest level, I seriously need to knuckle down. He did that.”

Matt Wells, who could have replaced Postecoglou also deserves massive credit fo💮r al💛ways backing the talented Spence.
