‘The most important thing’: Dirk Kuyt sends message from Ten Hag to Klopp amid Liverpool woes

Liverpool cult hero Dirk Kuyt has urged Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to stick to his vision amid the team’s poor start to the season.

The Reds have been below par in the opening weeks of the 2022-23 campaign.

Liverpool have won just two Premier Leagues this term and fell to a 4-1 loss at Napoli in the Champions League in midweek.

Such was the hosts’ dominance that it led Klopp to suggest after the game that his side needed to reinvent themselves moving forwards.

“The change will come”

However, Kuyt – who manages Dutch second-tier side ADO Den Haag – believes the Liverpool boss need not stray from his vision.

The former Reds striker also passed on advice given to him by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

“If Jurgen and I stick to our vision, the change will come,” he told De Telegraaf, relayed by and .

“Your vision is the most important thing to hold on to, I’ve learned from all the top trainers I’ve spoken to.

“In the summer Ten Hag told me this at the airport in Ibiza, where we met during the holiday.

“If the club is in a bad way, like this period, the crowd often adds two or three more spades to the mix and creates an atmosphere of invincibility.”

“Lose the plot”

Liverpool host Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday night, and Kuyt feels the Reds will have too much for the Dutch giants in front of a passionate home crowd.

“I would be very surprised if Ajax can play under that intense pressure against Liverpool,” he continued.

“Only in the half-time, they (Ajax) can do something right.

“At Anfield, I have seen even the biggest teams with the most experienced top players lose the plot because of the interaction between the crowd and the team.”
