‘The most ability’… Micah Richards says attacker Leeds sold for £5m was better than Mark Viduka

Leeds United are enjoying the Welsh revolution at Elland Road right now.

Indeed, the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Connor Roberts and Dan James are all key players at Leeds while being Welsh national team stars.

However, years before there was the Welsh revolution at Elland Road, there was the Australian influx.

Indeed, Leeds signed a number of Australian players in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and two of the very best were Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka.

Speaking on , Micah Richards has been discussing who the best Australian in Premier League history is, and while he ultimately went for Tim Cahill, he named both Kewell and Viduka as two of his favourites growing up around Leeds, claiming that he thought Kewell had the more ability of the two.

Harry Kewell was better than Mark Viduka

Richards shared his verdict on these two former Leeds players.

“Who’s the best Australian player in Premier League history?” Richards was asked.

“I would say growing up in Leeds having seen Viduka and Kewell I would probably say that Kewell had the most ability, but in terms of longevity I would go for Tim Cahill,” Richards said.

Both brilliant

It’s a long time ago now, but it mustn’t be forgotten just how fantastic this Leeds team were.

Kewell and Viduka were both a joy to watch on their days, and Leeds had plenty more players of that ilk during that time.

Unfortunately, these two never managed to win major honours with Leeds, coming so close on a number of occasions but never getting over the line, but Kewell did eventually win the Champions League with Liverpool after making his move to Anfield back in 2003 in controversial circumstances.
