‘The manager realises’… Tim Sherwood says Antonio Conte was using £39m Tottenham player incorrectly

Antonio Conte got a lot wrong at Tottenham.

The Italian mismanaged a number of players during his final season at the club, and perhaps the biggest victim of Conte’s negative style was Pedro Porro.

The Spaniard was Conte’s final signing at Spurs, and when he arrived, there was plenty of excitement about what he could do in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system.

However, as Conte became more and more pragmatic, that 3-4-3 started to look a lot more like a 5-2-3, and Porro’s attacking instincts were squashed

Speaking on , Tim Sherwood has been discussing Porro’s improvement this season, and he says that Ange Postecoglou has now realised that Antonio Conte was using the man incorrectly.

Porro was misused

Sherwood shared his verdict on the defender.

“I think the manager realises, Pedro was left out of the team last year because they wanted a full-back, and he wasn’t a full-back, what he is is how Ange is using him, he’s a right-sided player, with an incredible passing range and that is where he’s being deployed at the moment.”

So much better

If there was a Most Improved Player award in the Premier League then Porro would be a shoo-in to win it.

The Spaniard has improved to no end this season. He’s playing with so much more confidence at the moment, and while he does still have some defensive deficiencies, they’re not all that noticeable as he’s playing a much more advanced role.

Porro, with all due respect, looked like a dud of a signing when he arrived last January, but now, he looks like a superstar in the making, and he’s one of the most exciting and creative players in the league in that role.

Porro is a fantastic player, and it’s a shame that the first few months of his Spurs career were wasted under a manager who didn’t know how to get the best out of him.
