The Liverpool players now at risk of not receiving a medal after Premier League make announcement

Liverpool are now officially the champions of England after a 5-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The Reds were finally able to celebrate a Premier League title in front of the Anfield faithful – after the global pandemic scuppered such a party back in the 2019/20 campaign – as Arne Slot reigns supreme in his debut season at Liverpool.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and an own goal by Destiny Udogie saw Liverpool – who Ange Postecoglou praised – secure the title in rampant style, leaving Jamie Redknapp to describe the atmosphere as “like a festival” after the final whistle as everyone celebrated.

However, there may be a few Liverpool players left disappointed unless Slot makes some changes in the final four games.

Federico Chiesa and others may not receive a medal

As the Premier League announced in the aftermath of Liverpool’s title win, only those who have made at least five league appearances are eligible to receive a medal.

The majority of the Liverpool squad have done this – aside from some academy products who have mainly been kept in reserve – although there is one senior player at risk of missing out in Federico Chiesa.

A £10m arrival from Juventus back in August, the Italy international has only made four Premier League appearances so far this season, so he will need Slot to hand him just one more to be eligible for a medal.

Chiesa – who Slot would be happy to sell this summer – should still receive a medal, as it would be a real shock for him to be left on the bench for the remainder of the season.

Elsewhere, Vitezslav Jaros will need the Dutchman to start him in the final four league games – ignoring Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher – to get a medal, having only made one Premier League appearance this term, which came in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Liverpool players who definitely cannot receive a medal

The academy products named on Liverpool’s Premier League squad list, but are no longer possibly able to rack up five league appearances this season, are as follows.

Of course, it would be nice if the Premier League were able to hand these talents a medal, although the fact they miss out should only motivate them to improve and push for a place under Slot next season.
