‘The latest I heard’: Villa could struggle to sign £17m target now, he’s agreed deal elsewhere – journalist

Aston Villa have seemingly been handed a blow in their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer.

Ashley Preece that the latest he had heard was that Bayern Munich had agreed a deal for the Austrian.

He wrote: “As for Laimer, the latest I heard was that Bayern had agreed a deal. Be tough for Villa to come over the top but we’ll have to wait and see.”

The 25-year-old plays as a central midfielder but was also used on the right-wing last season. He scored five goals and put up six assists in 43 appearances for RB Leipzig.

In May, that the Bundesliga champions were preparing an opening bid of around £17 million for Laimer.

He also said that his former boss and now Bayern Munich manager, Julian Naglesmann, was pushing to sign him. And now it appears that Naglesmann may have got his man.

However, there may still be hope for Villa manager Steven Gerrard as Preece did suggest that Villa’s hopes might not be over entirely – even if a deal does now appear unlikely.

Laimer has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool this summer after an impressive campaign for club and country last season.

previously compared the midfielder’s style of play to that of Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

TBR’s View: Bayern Munich A More Attractive Option For Laimer

In our view, if reports that Bayern Munich have agreed a deal for Laimer are true, Villa would be best off moving onto different midfield targets. The Bundesliga champions are a powerhouse in European football and can offer the midfielder Champions League football.

The chance for players to play for a club as big as Bayern Munich does not come around very often and the move may be too good of an opportunity to turn down for Laimer.
