‘The difference’…Tim Sherwood lauds 26-year-old Aston Villa player against Tottenham

Tim Sherwood has claimed that Unai Emery outdid Ange Postecoglou today by introducing Youri Tielemans during Aston Villa v Tottenham.

Villa had managed to draw level just before the whistle for half-time was blown but manager Emery still didn’t feel things were quite right and made changes at the break.

Emery brought on both Youri Tielemans and Leon Bailey as he tried to change the game and it worked massively in the end as Ollie Watkins netted a deserved winner.

And watching on for former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood felt that Tielemans was indeed the biggest difference.

Tim Sherwood says Youri Tielemans made the difference in Spurs v Villa

Speaking about the introduction of Tielemans and his impact, Sherwood was full of praise for the Belgian.

“Spurs should have been out of sight after the first half. Spurs fans are liking what they’re seeing but results need to marry up with that and they’re not at the moment because of the injuries and suspensions. The better squad won today, that was won by the manager and from the bench – Tielemans was all the difference,” Sherwood .

Impact off the bench massive

Sherwood is right here in that the subs for Villa made all the difference in this game. Tottenham’s depleted squad couldn’t quite keep up after their fast start and they ran out of steam.

Having a player off the bench like Tielemans is always going to be a huge bonus. He is a class act and there was no wonder teams wanted him in the summer so much.

Tielemans has not quite had the biggest impact ever at Villa but the sort of composure and elegance he brought to the game today is why he was signed.

Villa look every bit the top four contender now and with players like Tielemans on the bench, it’s no wonder why.
