‘The best’: Rodrigo Moreno sends Leeds United teammate message after performance vs Cardiff yesterday

Leeds United never do anything the easy way, and secured a replay against Cardiff City yesterday in dramatic fashion.

After a faltering first half that saw them go two goals down, they managed to find two late goals of their own before the full-time whistle.

The Spanish forward is in great form this season, and started Leeds’ comeback yesterday.

He could have equalised from the spot after left-back Joel Bagan saved Junior Firpo’s shot with his hand.

Unfortunately, his spot kick was saved, but Sonny Perkins saved his blushes with his first senior goal in the dying moments.

Rodrigo was particularly impressed with Joel Robles after the match, who deputised for Illan Meslier in goal.

The young Frenchman wasn’t fit enough to be on the bench after suffering with a muscle issue.

“Illan had a muscle issue with his kicking leg after being out for so long with mono or glandular fever that it stretched him a little bit so he wouldn’t have been able to play either today,”

It gave 32-year-old Robles his second Leeds appearance, and he will now be hoping he gets to keep his place for the replay next week.

Marc Roca loved his countryman’s performance, while Rodrigo Moreno simply replied, ‘The best’.

Robles arrived at Elland Road on a free transfer in the summer, .

He’s spent much of his career in England playing for Wigan Athletic and Everton, before moving to Real Betis.

Michael Skubala has been really impressed with Robles since his arrival, as has Marsch.

“We wanted a veteran goalkeeper to come in to help push the our young goalkeepers competitively every day and to help provide a little bit more experience as to what the position can look like with savviness and understanding and controlling of the match through that position,”

“A guy that knew what the role was and could commit to it all the way in a selfless manner.

“I’ve told Joel from like the third week that he was here that I could see he was the perfect guy and that we made an absolutely fantastic decision to bring him here.”

It’s unclear whether Meslier will be fit to play against Aston Villa on Friday.

After impressing Rodrigo and Roca, Robles could make his Premier League bow for the Whites at Villa Park.

Leeds desperately need to get another win under their belt, and the pressure would be on Robles to step up and perform.
