‘That’s why’… Pundit believes he knows the real reason Celtic rejected January offer for James McCarthy

The situation of James McCarthy at Celtic is one that has left the fans really confused over the past three seasons.

Signed by Ange Postecoglou for free, the former Republic of Ireland hero has cost Celtic a small fortune in wages with very little to show for it.

With no appearances so far for Brendan Rodgers, the only time McCarthy has pulled on the green and white Hoops this season was for a Celtic B game against East Kilbride.

So it would make sense that if the club got an offer, any offer🧸, for the 33-year-old that they wouldn’t think twice about accepting it, right?

Not so. Celtic rejected a loan offer from Greek side, Volos FC in January and pundit, Gordon🉐 Dalziel, believes the club were 100% correct to do so.

Celtic made the right call on James McCarthy

Indeed, with Volos reportedly not wanting to pay a percentage of McCarthy’s salary, pundit, Gordon Dalziel, believes that Celtic rejected the offer because Volos was trying to take advantage of the c♓lub.

Dalziel said [], “You loo♍k at James McCarthy just quickly. I think that they rejected it because the club looked at the situation that was going to take him on loan and tried to use it to their advantage.

“Now if you’re going to take a player on loan you’ve got to contribute something to it and I think that Celtic felt that the club wasn’t prepare📖d to do that.

“So what is the point in putting a player out there and recouping nothing for him and not getting any wages or nothing towards his wages and that’s 🅺why Celtic have probably dug their heels in.”

Clearly, Volos looked at McCarthy and his lack of appearances for C﷽eltic and thought ♚they could get the player on the cheap.

The Parkhead club rebuffed that offer and felt they wou🌠ld rather hold onto McCarthy than allow themselves to be taken advantage o♏f.

In my opinion, I would have let him go. Celtic are paying his £14k per week salary anyway and allowing McCarthy to go and get some gametime could haไve put him in the shop window.

Wꦕith his contract not up until next summer, surely that would have made more sense than having him sit in the stand or on the Celtic bench?
