‘That winds me up’: Ramsdale says he’s been irritated by what people have been saying about one Leeds player

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale spoke about the criticism Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has come under over the last few months.
The young French shot-stopper had an amazing debut campaign in the Premier League for Leeds in the 2020/21 season. He played a big part in helping them finish ninth, which was an extraordinary achievement.
In the most recent campaign, however, Meslier, like many of his teammates, struggled. Leeds just weren’t at it in the first half of the season, and although they improved under Jesse Marsch in the end, it has definitely been a year to forget.
Leeds had the second-worst worst defensive record in the league having conceded 79 goals. As a result, Meslier came under immense criticism, and Ramsdale has now defended him.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal legend David Seaman on his this week, and he had his say on plenty of goalkeepers. Meslier was one of them.
The Gunners star said: “When we played Leeds away Meslier has made five or six saves first half but they were 3-0 down.
“Nobody was mentioning his saves, they mentioned one of the goals which he might have done better for.
“If you get 10 shots at you, more times than not you’re going to let one in, but that’s what people always talk about. That’s for another day, but that winds me up.”

Being a goalkeeper just isn’t easy, is it? – both on and off the pitch.
If an outfielder makes a mistake on the pitch, there’s a good chance his teammates will bail him out. However, if a goalkeeper makes an error, it will almost always end up costing the team a goal.
Meslier made one such error against the Gunners this season, but the Frenchman made a number of stunning saves as well in the game, which wasn’t talked about as much.
The Leeds United man is a very good goalkeeper and the fact that he’s still only 22 means he’ll only get better in the coming years.
