‘That sounds ridiculous’… Micah Richards makes claim about Timo Werner after watching him at Tottenham
Timo Werner has had a decent start to life at Tottenham.
The German has caused all sorts of problems for opposition teams with his pace, and he’s looked lively.
However, he’s yet to score for Tottenham, and he still has plenty of room to improve.
Speaking on , Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer have been debating Werner and his role at Tottenham, but according to Richards, as strange as it sounds, he doesn’t need to be relied on to score goals

Werner doesn’t need to be relied on to score
Richards spoke about the German alongside Shearer and Lineker.
“Timo Werner is doing a bit. He’s not scoring at the moment but his pace is useful on the left hand side,” Lineker said.
“They lacked width in the first half but he provided that. Him and Johnson were much better in the second half, when Johnson came on. They combined really well together for Johnson’s goal and they were much, much better. His pace hasn’t changed but we will reserve judgement to see if he has learnt the offside rule,” Shearer added.
“I don’t think he needs that responsibility to score all the goals. I know that sounds ridiculous but I mean in the terms of the way of how they want to play and press and if they can just use his pace to break the line and just pass it across whereas I feel at Chelsea there was a lot more responsibility on him to score goals,” Richards said.
Needs a few
Richards is spot on, Werner can be a very useful attacking player without being ultra-prolific.
However, with that being said, he does need to chip in with a few goals at least.
Creativity, pace and being a nuisance will only get you so far as an attacker, if you’re not putting the ball in the net, you’ll soon have questions asked of you.
Werner is useful as someone who progresses the ball, but to say that he doesn’t need to score goals is wide of the mark.
