‘That is a really good trait’: Pundit lauds Everton player who ‘reacts positively’
David Seaman has lauded Jordan Pickford for his ability to respond to any mistakes and backed the Everton goalkeepe🐈r as his number one for England.
Pickford had a quiet afternoon between the sticks on Sunday as the Three Lions opened their Euro 2020 with a 1-0 win over Croatia. The 27-year-old was rarely tested but was quick off the marks at Wembley whenꦅ needed for Gareth Southgate.
His biggest challenge, bar some late aerial claims, was in picking the right pass as England played out from the back. It was the ideal start to the European Championship for Pickford, who had a mainly average domestic campaign for Everton.
The season started poorly for Pickford when he clattered into Virgil van Dijk during October’s Merseyside derby. His perfor𝐆mances were hit and miss for the next few months but ended strongly with a standout showing in defeat to Manchester City.
Pickford was the sole positive of the 5-0 mauling after producing a number of magnificent saves to try and keep the score down. And Southgate may need that version of the intern🐷ational being present later in Euro 2020. 🌸As Seaman is firm in his belief of who is England’s number one.
“Jordan is definitely my nu♐mber one,” Sꦕeaman told Everton’s . “What I like about Jordan, he has a good confidence about himself.
“If he does make🐲 a mistake, he reacts positively. He can carry on and be the same goalkeeper, 🎐it doesn’t affect him. He gets on with the game and that is a really good trait for a goalkeeper.
“We all make mistakes, and it is about how you deal with it. He is definitely England’s number one and has never let them down🎶.”
TBR’s view: Pickford on the right path at Everton
Pickford endured a difficult st🐭art to the season last term that could have cost him a place in Southgate’s squad. Along with colliding with Van Dijk, the Everton goalkeeper gifted Brighton a goal in October wheܫn he unforgivably dropped the ball at Neal Maupay’s feet.
His mishaps continue💖d in January when Pickford could only push Youri Tielemans’ strike into the back of Everton’s net. But he responded to those mistakes by producing performances like against Man City to secure his place in England’s goal.
Pickford is also 🍰now to help improve his disp🐷lays and claims he feels great. His displays toward the end of the campaign justified that, and England could now benefit at Euro 2020.
