Terry Butcher says one Crystal Palace player was ‘outstanding’ in today’s win over West Brom

Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill has been praised by England legend and BBC Sport pundit Terry Butcher for his efforts in the Eagles’ Premier League victory today.

Roy Hodgson’s charges ran out 1-0 winners over West Brom at Selhurst Park, with a first-half penalty proving the difference between the two sides.

Wilfried Zaha’s cross hit Darnell Furlong’s arm inside the area and, after a lengthy VAR check, the spot kick was awarded.

Luka Milivojevic duly converted from 12 yards on 37 minutes and, although both teams had chances to get on the scoresheet in the second half, just the one goal settled it.

Cahill also impressed as he made numerous good clearances, a great recovery tackle, and won pretty much everything in the air.

“Gary Cahill has been outstanding at the back,” Butcher told BBC Sport (). “Kept things simple, made sure he clears the ball, marked very well.”

The victory was Palace’s first in four matches and moves the Eagles up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Palace’s next game comes after the international break, the trip to Everton on Saturday 3 April.
