‘Terrific’… BBC pundit heaps praise on Leeds United man after showing ‘brilliant composure’
In the battle of Leeds United’s players on the international stage on Thursday night, it was the club’s Wales quartet that won the bragging right – as Rob Page’s side beat Glen Kamara’s Finland 4-1.
A game that has been in the offing for a while, Wales were tasked with hosting Kamara and Finland in their quest for a place at Euro 2024 this summer. But it was always going to go on way, on Thursday.
Wales got off to a perfect start, as David Brooks netted for his country after three minutes. Wales went on to secure an easy win – Harry Wilson creating the first and second goals, Neco Williams scoring.
Brooks turned provider for no.3 after Teemu Pukki had pulled one back – creating Brennan Johnson’s third Wales goal. Dan James, one of Leeds’ four players, can count himself unlucky not to have started.

James has been on fire for Leeds this season, but Page decided to pick Brooks, Johnson and Wilson as his front three. But coming off the bench, James got his name on the score sheet – on 86 minutes.
The former Manchester United man rounded off a brilliant display from Wales when the pressure was on. He robbed Milo Tenho off the ball before rounding the goalkeeper to score Wales’ fourth goal.
Nathan Blake was on co-commentary duty for , and he paid tribute to James for his goal and the pressure he applied after coming on as a sub. He didn’t sulk at the omission, but did contribute.
“Let the party begin. Brilliant composure from Dan James, he deserved that for the pressure he put the defender under. As cool as you like,” Blake said, when discussing the Leeds winger on Thursday.

What did Welsh media say about Leeds star James tonight
Despite only coming on after 73 minutes, James was excellent – with Welsh website handing the Leeds man a rating of 8/10. They described his performance as “terrific” on Thursday night.
“[He’s] in terrific form and he continued with the finishing touch in Wales’ clinical display. He stole the ball on the half-way line before breaking away, rounding the keeper and slotting home the fourth.”
Jon Newsome recently said James has been “outstanding” this season and he certainly has for the Whites – even if he has not been starting games of late. 19 goals and assists for Leeds in 37 matches.
All attention for Wales and James turns to Tuesday, when they face a do-or-die clash against Poland for a place at Euro 2024. Poland also set the tie up, after beating Estonia tonight, with a resounding 5-1.
