Teddy Sheringham delivers verdict on Gareth Bale as he nears Spurs return

Tottenham Hotspur icon Teddy Sheringham has given his verdict on Gareth Bale as he nears a loan switch back to Spurs, in conversation with .

The Welshman completed a medical in Madrid on Thursday as he closes on a deal that will see him return to the club he left in a world-record £86million transfer seven years ago.

Aside from being a world-class player himself, Bale is also the ideal man to bring the best out of Spurs striker Harry Kane, according to Sheringham.

“Bale will do things in training which Kane will then say ‘I can’t wait to play on a Saturday with him’,” the 54-year-old told .

“This is what football is all about at the top level. It’s not all about money, you want to be playing with top players and exciting people who are watching you play football. Simple as that.

“He [Bale] is a player of immense talent, unbelievable talent. If you get the chance to sign him then you have got to.

“Yeah, his best days might be behind him, and injury wise you might worry a little bit. But to have him in your team for 25 out of 45 games in a season, you would be delighted to see the impact he would have.

“I don’t think you could pick a player that would come to play at Tottenham at the moment who would have more impact than someone like Gareth Bale at the moment. So I think it would be an absolutely fantastic signing.”

For years, speculation linking Bale and Spurs has often led to much eye-rolling, but this time, it looks as though there’s a very good chance the two parties will be reunited.

Frankly, it’s baffling to see a player of his calibre being frozen out at Real despite the heroics he’s produced over the years, and their loss now looks set to be Tottenham’s gain.
