TBR’s View: Newcastle should act if Spurs recall Jack Clarke from Leeds

that Tottenham Hotspur are considering recalling Jack Clarke from his loan at Leeds United in January.

Clarke has endured a tough time since returning to Elland Road in the wake of his £10 million move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer. He is yet to play in the Championship this term, and has been left out of the matchday squad on a regular basis in recent weeks.

Leeds have six loanees on their books this season. So, with Marcelo Bielsa reluctant to drop players on form, Clarke is seemingly relying on one of the other loanees picking up an injury.

Unsurprisingly, Spurs are reportedly considering bringing him back in January. that the likes of Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace would all be interested in loaning Clarke for the second-half of the campaign.

But if he is recalled and made available again, Newcastle surely need to make their own move. After a frustrating spell on the sidelines, Spurs need to send Clarke to a club where he could play.

The Magpies arguably need greater depth in wide areas. Steve Bruce only has a handful of wingers available to him right now. So it would be no surprise if he was looking to bolster his options in January.

Newcastle should consider Clarke gamble?

Clarke is a raw talent. But he has the potential to really excite the St James’ Park faithful if he can get back on track in the future.

He has shown that he has the ability to glide past Championship full-backs with ease. And Spurs’s £10 million spend in the summer suggests that Pochettino believes that the 18-year-old can cause similar problems at the highest level.

It would be a gamble. But Newcastle may need to consider rolling the dice when January arrives. They have only scored four goals in six Premier League games this term.

If Spurs are going to loan Clarke to a top flight side, then they will want assurances that he is going to play. Newcastle can potentially provide more assurances than any of his reported admirers.

And if Bruce can get Clarke back to being the player that burst into the Leeds first-team last season, then Newcastle may be reflecting on a transfer masterstroke.
