TBR’s View: Everton must not sell Jonjoe Kenny as he could end up saving the club millions

It appears that Everton right-back Jonjoe Kenny has become something of a wanted commodity. The England under-21 international has been thriving out on loan at Schalke 04 and, , the German side are hoping to discuss a potential permanent switch this month.

This news comes just two weeks after Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham were all credited with an interest in the player

Everton hold all the cards regarding Kenny and, , Kenny’s current loan club have no option to buy the Merseyside talent.

Everton must ensure it stays that way.

Kenny has often divided fans at Everton. Many rate him as a potential top right-back who could make the position his own for years to come at Goodison Park.

Others, however, disagree and believe Kenny has been overhyped because of his performances with the England youth system and have not seen enough from his performances to suggest a long-term future.

But Kenny is now proving his worth in the Bundesliga and Everton could soon reap the benefits. With Seamus Coleman’s standards slipping with age and Djibril Sidibe only on loan, the right-back position at Goodison Park is not secure.

Buying in that position is also not cheap. Manchester United had to pay Crystal Palace £50 million, , for Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer. Kenny overtook the United star as starting right-back for England’s under-21s in the summer.

Keeping Kenny now could help Everton save millions in the long run when it comes to replacing Coleman. They must hold their nerve, and tell interested parties thanks, but no thanks.
