TBR’s View: Everton dodged a bullet failing to sign long-term reported target Malcom
Everton have been linked with a move for Brazilian winger Malcom on several occasions in recent times.
It was initially in the summer of 2018 that Everton were set for talks with Bordeaux regarding the player’s signature.
That proved untrue, with Everton instead focused on signing Richarlison from Watford.
However, last summer, the player’s name was linked again. Malcom had since moved to Barcelona and struggled at the Nou Camp. Spanish paper that Malcom was being offered to clubs around Europe with Everton ‘could be in the conversation’.
It made sense. Everton boss Marco Silva was known to want a left-footed winger, making Malcom a perfect target. Everton also have a good relationship with Barcelona, having previously signed Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes from the Nou Camp.

However, Malcom headed to Russia. that Zenit St Petersburg paid a whopping £41 million to sign the 23-year-old.
But based on his debut season in Russia, Everton are not missing out. Malcom has had a tough season battling a serious hip problem and underwent surgery on the issue in October.
The result was Malcom missing the entire Champions League campaign and he has so far played just five times for his new club, registering no goals or assists.
The good news is that Malcom is back and fighting fit, playing the full 90 minutes against Lokomotiv Moscow and Ufa in the league recently as well as 120 minutes of a Russian Cup quarter-final win against Akhmat Grozny.
But for now, Everton will be pleased they did not spend big to bag this long-term target.
