TBR’s View: Carlo Ancelotti should use golden opportunity to finally work with ‘champion’ Edinson Cavani

It appears that Uruguayan goal-machine Edinson Cavani could be on his way out of PSG. The striker is out of contract in the summer and,, wants to leave the French side in January to play regular first-team football elsewhere.

Plenty of clubs have been credited with an interest in the player, and rightly so. Cavani has scored 198 goals in 293 appearances for the Parisiens and is considered one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

So should Everton consider an ambitious move to bring the 32-year-old to Goodison Park?

A few weeks ago, such a suggestion would have been laughed at. Many did the same when it was suggested Everton appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager. Yet, the Italian is now the boss on the blue side of Merseyside.

Ancelotti is a big fan of Cavani. When the forward was being consistently linked with a return to former club Napoli in 2018, where Ancelotti was manager, that he would ‘never say never’ regarding the idea of signing Cavani.

“I’ve coached many champions, but I still haven’t coached Cavani. Never say never. You can never say ‘no’ to champions…”

It never happened, but now he might have the chance to get his hands on the player who he missed out on working with at PSG. Cavani completed a move to the Parc des Princes one month after Ancelotti had left the French capital.

Everton would be able to offer Cavani regular playing time and, despite their recent financial reports, it seems a gamble the club’s board would be willing to take. Indeed, Everton were keen on a shock move for the player back in 2017,

It seems like a fantasy but, for many, so was Ancelotti managing Everton. Perhaps the Italian’s presence could genuinely lure ‘El Matador’ to Goodison Park.
