TBR View: With Jack Harrison unavailable, Leeds should start Ian Poveda v Man City

Leeds United host a wounded Manchester City on Saturday evening at Elland Road, with Pep Guardiola’s team suffering a 5-2 defeat against Leicester City in their last match.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa’s side go into the Premier League fixture with the form of back-to-back league wins and they have been impressive on their return to the top-flight.

The Whites should enter the weekend with great confidence, but they will have a huge gap in their starting XI that could prove an issue.

Jack Harrison will be unavailable against parent club Man City on Saturday and the Leeds loanee is such an important player for the Yorkshire giants, as he’s an ever-present in the left wing position.

The 23-year-old wide man has scored and assisted already in the opening three games of the league season, plus he fits Bielsa’s system perfectly with his tireless energy and work-rate.

Despite the sizeable gap that Harrison will leave, it’s an opportunity for others to try impress in the XI and Argentine boss should put his faith in exciting youngster Ian Poveda to start.

Poveda is one of the more inexperienced members of the Leeds group at senior level, but he’s shown in flashes his brilliance on the ball and he’s an electric attacker with plenty of pace.

The 20-year-old only moved to Elland Road back in January after previously coming through the Man City academy and he made one first-team appearance at the Etihad Stadium before his exit.

He’s played just six games for Bielsa’s Leeds since, but the manager chucked him on as a substitute in last weekend’s win against Sheffield United and he made a big impression.

The speedster got in some dangerous attacking positions on the counter attack and his direct running with the ball caused problems for the opposition, something that looks tailor-made for the upcoming fixture.

He’s exactly the type of threat on the counter attack that could hurt Man City and Leicester proved that, so it could be a great option to go with him and regular starter Helder Costa in wide areas.
