TBR view: West Ham need to consider making a move for Dimitri Payet

have reported that West Ham have not declared an interest in signing Dimitri Payet this month. However, it is not too late and the Hammers should consider making a move for their former star-man to help them stay out of relegation trouble.

David Moyes’ side currently sit just one place outside of the relegation zone but are level on points with Bournemouth and Watford who sit just below them. There is a real danger of the club heading back to the Championship next season and changes need to be made to prevent that.

Marseille midfielder Payet, who West Ham sold to the French club for £25m (), could provide the magic touch that West Ham are missing. He has scored six goals and provided three assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances so far this campaign and Hammers fans are well aware of his ability to perform in the Premier League.

The French midfielder was once a fans favourite at the club between the years of 2015 and 2017. His flair, attacking prowess and sheer ability got fans on their feet every time he touched the ball and he scored some of the greatest West Ham goals in recent memory.

The 2015/16 season was a particularly memorable one. Nine goals and 12 assists in 30 Premier League games took the club to a seventh-place finish in the league. That, of course, included the infamous free-kick against Crystal Palace.

Payet has continued to prove his ability whilst in France with Marseille. He could make a real difference at West Ham and would give them the attacking edge that they are missing. The 32-year-old can change a game in a split second and could be crucial in their fight against relegation.
