TBR View: West Ham linked with left-footed Tottenham star, but they need a right-footed one

West Ham United are reportedly interested in raiding London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the services of left-back Danny Rose as David Moyes goes about improving his defence – but surely it is a right-footed defender they need to be after?

Other than a permanent deal for Tomas Soucek, West Ham are yet to bring any new players to the club this summer – despite cashing in no Grady Diangana, Jordan Hugill and Albian Ajeti and raking in more than £20million for the trio’s services.

Left-back has been identified as an area that requires strengthening even though Moyes boasts Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku in that position. West Ham are keen on Rose, as are Aston Villa.

It is unlikely that West Ham would have to delve deep to land England international Rose, but do they really need a left-back? Surely it is much more obvious that West Ham need a right-back, following the loss of Jeremy Ngakia and Pablo Zabaleta?

Just Ryan Fredericks remains an option at right-back, but he has struggled since joining in the summer of 2018 – a lack of form and numerous injuries becoming an issue. A new right-back is needed.

Instead of targeting Rose from Tottenham, West Ham should continue to use Tottenham as a scouting pool but to solve the more pressing concern of right-back – and rival Spartak Moscow in a move to sign Serge Aurier.

Spartak are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing 27-year-old Aurier, with Spurs open to selling him and the player himself keen to go – after the signing of Matt Doherty. But surely the chance to stay in London would be tempting?

West Ham need a right-back, Aurier is keen to go and he could be available for a smaller fee than the £23million () Spurs paid for him. Surely it is a no-brainer for the Hammers to consider luring Aurier across London.
