TBR View: Tottenham fans should be pleased as Sissoko is linked with exit

Amid news Toby Alderweireld has left Tottenham Hotspur for pastures new, fans should be buzzing with the latest update on Moussa Sissoko.

What’s the story?

According to The Times, the France international could leave the club for the Middle East.

He would be following his former Belgian teammate, who moved to Al-Duhail for £13m on Tuesday.

It means Fabio Paratici could be about to offload two of Spurs most experienced players.

Alderweireld had been at the club since 2015 after joining from Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, Sissoko joined in 2016 after Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship.

Both formed a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side that made their way to the Champions League final.

Potential Sissoko exit should have fans thrilled

Last season was a reality check for Tottenham as they completed their demise. From Champions League finalists to debutants in the brand-new Europa Conference League, it has been a quick turnaround in just two years.

Last term’s eighth-placed finish highlighted the overall quality of this squad, or lack thereof.

It has shown off the need for a mass revamp of Tottenham’s first-team squad. With Alderweireld out the door, Sissoko could be joining him.

Ridding the team of their more aged players will help bring in fresh, younger assets to the club.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Paratici have already undertaken the plan in attack, swapping Erik Lamela for Bryan Gil.

The plan is also in motion at the back with regards to replacing the Belgium international. Tottenham have allegedly been trying to bring in 23-year-old Cristian Romero as the 32-year-old’s replacement and that would be a fine move.

In Tanguy Ndombele and Oliver Skipp, Tottenham have the youngsters to take over from Sissoko in midfield.

With the veterans moving on, the young blood are now able to challenge and Spurs fans should be buzzing.
