TBR View: Tottenham are linked with a defender who could be a Jan Vertonghen replacement

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has been linked with Tottenham, who could be a great option for the latter.

, Premier League rivals Man City may be willing to offer their star Ake in a bid to try sign Spurs frontman Harry Kane.

The report says Gabriel Jesus is another player that may be involved in a cash-plus-swap deal for Kane.

Ake, who moved to the Etihad Stadium last summer from Bournemouth, has won two trophies during his first season with Man City.

Unfortunately, the centre-back played just 13 games across all competitions this campaign.

The Dutch centre-half missed a few months midway through the season with a hamstring problem, but is a part of the Netherlands squad this summer at Euro 2020.

Nathan Ake can be Jan Vertonghen 2.0 at Tottenham

Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino were one of the best around defensively.

The north London club boasted the formidable centre-back combination of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. As well as that, they had full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose in front of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

On paper, Ake is someone that would be a great Spurs signing.

The 26-year-old is a proven centre-back and boasts plenty of Premier League experience. He’s also at an age where his prime years should still be ahead of him.

Interestingly, you can make a comparison between left-footed duo Ake and ex-Spurs defender Vertonghen.

The duo are both are ball-playing centre-backs.

It will help the club’s next manager if there is a left-footed centre-back available in the squad.
