TBR view: Three strikers that could solve Aston Villa’s striker problem following Wesley injury
Aston Villa were struck a cruel double injury blow in their recent fixture with Burnley. Both Tom Heaton and Wesley suffered serious knee injuries in the New Year’s Day victory and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
Wesley’s injury leaves the club with just one senior striker. Here are three players that could solve the problem Villa now have upfront.
Michy Batshuayi
Batshuayi looks like he could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this month. He has made just three starts for Chelsea this season and is not trusted by manager Frank Lampard.
The Belgian is a similar style of striker to Wesley and would fit the way Villa play. A run of first-team football could get the best out of ‘The Batsman’ and the Villains are
Daniel Sturridge
Daniel Sturridge made a move to Turkey in the summer with Trabzonspor. He has scored four goals in six starts and is proving he has still got it when he is fit. Villa and Marseille have bother already been linked with his signature ().
If the English striker can maintain his fitness, he would certainly add something to the Villa attack. He is only 30-years-old and could still make an impact in the Premier League. He could also prove to be a cheaper alternative to other European targets, who may have inflated prices at this point in the season.
Scott Hogan
The final option for Villa would be to recall Scott Hogan from his loan at Championship strugglers Stoke City. He has scored twice and provided one assist in 13 games for The Potters this season, which is hardly prolific form.
However, Jonathan Kodja is currently the club’s only striker. If they cannot secure deals for any new additions, Hogan might be needed just to offer another option going forward.
