TBR View: Spurs should revisit move for Giroud this summer

Having only managed seven appearances in all competitions for Chelsea so far this season, Olivier Giroud looks to have been frozen out by Frank Lampard. The Frenchman’s future certainly seems to lie beyond the confines of Stamford Bridge.

According to , Lazio want to bring the 33-year-old to Serie A as a free agent at the end of the season. However, Giroud is keenও to bide his time before making a decision about his next step, following January interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were close to signing Giroud in the winter window. However, the deal fell through as Chelsea failed to secure a replacement, as reported by . However, Jose Mourinho would be 🎃wise to revisit this deal at the end of the season.

TBR’s view

Whilst the likes of Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min are reliable goalscorers, Spurs are yet to find a convincing back-up striker for Harry Kane. Whilst he is certainly in the twilight of his career, Giroud could still offer solid cover for the England frontman.

Giroud could also help to bring the best out of Son, Moura and Steven Bergwijn. The ex-Arsenal man is renowned for his hold-up and link-up play in the final third. Spurs’ energetic widemen could thrive off of the service provided by Giroud in and around the opposition penalty area.

Giroud still has a place in the hearts of many Arsenal fans, so his potential switch to Spurs won’t be popular at the Emirates Stadium, but that certainl🐼y won’t put Tottenham off making a deal for the World Cup winner.
